Cinema Trip

Mums and Dads, your children were an absolute credit to you during our recent visit to the cinema to watch the Gruffalo and the Gruffalo's Child. Everyone behaved impeccably and all the boys and girls thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

When we got back to the class we completed lots of learning tasks that helped us think about:

  • Facts and Information
  • Feelings and Emotions
  • Positive ideas and good things about the story
  • Negative problems and issues in the story
  • How we could be creative when demonstrating our learning

We had lots of fun with P4 making a difference to our school grounds.

'Island Hoppers'

What a fun topic this has been boys and girls. You have learned almost everything we planned to find out about and we still have our trip to Shapinsay to go on!

I think we all particularly enjoyed our visit to the Orkney Island Ferry Office where we met Captain Wylie. Captain Wylie knew lots about the Island Ferries, can you remember what his favourite ferry was called?

Island Hopper Quiz

Island Hoppers, can you solve the anagrams of the Orkney Islands we have been learning about and write a comment telling me which island you think I have missed out?

Golden Learning Time

In line with Curriculum for Excellence, Golden Learning Time offers pupils personalisation, choice and depth in their learning. Class 2/3, 3/4S and Class 4 have thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to learn from each other during these sessions and have had great fun in the process!

Boys and girls, what have you enjoyed doing and why?

Mock Shop!

"I explore and discover where foods come from as I choose, prepare and taste different foods."

"I can use money to pay for items and can work out how much change I should receive."

"When preparing and cooking a variety of foods, I am becoming aware of the journeys which foods make from source to consumer, their seasonality, their local availability and their sustainability."

(Curriculum for Excellence)

We had a really great learning experience when we visited a local supermarket recently.

  • We designed a health packed lunch and estimated how much it would cost to buy.
  • Ms. Stuart gave us our budget and we shopped for our items, we put them through the till and we compared our estimate against the actual cost using our receipts.
  • We visited the different areas of the supermarket, we really liked sticking our hands in the freezer!
  • We really enjoyed our tasting session and some of us discovered that our taste buds had changed and that we actually liked the taste of things we didn't like before, like water!
  • We also designed a packed lunch full of food we thought was produced in Orkney and Ann from the supermarket tried to find these foods.
Boys and Girls, what food produced in Orkney could you buy from the local supermarket for your Orkney Packed Lunch?

Challenger Bus

“Through their learning in religious and moral education all children and young people will develop an understanding of Christianity, which has shaped the history and traditions of Scotland and continues to exert an influence on national life.” (Curriculum for Excellence)

We really enjoyed our interactive learning experience when we visited the Challenger Bus recently. We learned more about Christian beliefs through singing, multimedia and a puppet show.

We also learned about Eric Liddell, the Scottish Olympic hero.

Boys and girls, what can you remember about Eric Liddell?

Welcome to 3/4S

A belated welcome to Class 3/4S’ blog!

Boys and girls, what a bunch of ‘SMARTIES’ you all are!

I am so proud of how quickly you have all settled into the class routine and of your positive attitude towards your learning.

This year is going to be filled with lots of fun learning and we will work together to share this learning journey through our blog.
Keep up the good work 3/4S!
